We're looking for artistic submissions for an exhibition!
Space for Action
collective resistance to sexual violence and the reclamation of public space
24th November - 10th December 2017
Forth Valley Rape Crisis in partnership with Reachout With Arts in Mind & Alloa Spiers Centre
Taking place during the 16 Days of Action for the Elimination of Violence Against Women 2017, 'Space for Action' is an exhibition exploring the idea of reclaiming public space for self-identifying women, free from the threat of sexual violence, and creating safe spaces within which to resist, gather, organise, and ignite change.
The exhibition will run in Alloa for the duration of the 16 days, displayed across two venues; Reachout With Arts in Mind and Alloa Spiers Centre. We are looking for artistic contributions exploring the theme of reclaiming public space, with a focus on the gendered experience of self-identifying women in public space. There are lots of themes the art work could explore; the occurrence of sexual violence in public, the experience of an individual in public space, the experience of being together in groups or en masse, safety within urban planning, the varying experiences of women's intersecting identities (e.g. race, class, gender, immigration status, sexual orientation, disability etc.) ... and many other things!
Please see the attached document for more details and how to apply! Deadline for submissions is Sunday 8th October at midnight.
And save the date for our next Reclaim the Night march in Stirling, on Thursday 7th December!
